FORMAT Live-to-Tape Recap Special
The Ask
State Farm was one of NBCU’s most important partners for BravoCon 2023, making their presence known both on the ground and online.
The final piece of the digital puzzle? A live-to-tape recap show bringing the spectacle, drama, and fun of BravoCon to Peacock for fans who couldn’t experience it live.
Along with our CD and a co-writer, I was tapped to figure out exactly what this show would be.
Show Development & Scripting
As lead writer, I spent the weeks ahead of BravoCon designing the format of the show, developing segments like “Who Wore it? Guess,” “Love You, Meme It,” and “Who Said That?” and, of course, writing the actual script to fit our hosts Daryn Carp and Paige DeSorbo.
On The Ground
Once we touched down in Vegas, we hustled around Caesars Forum (and somehow wound up on The Hangover roof at Caesars Palace too…) tracking the biggest storylines, taking notes at key panels, monitoring what fans were buzzing about online, and teaming up with photographers and videographers to capture the assets we needed for the final product. Then, we put it all together - filming the final product just hours after BravoCon officially came to a close.
More TV Specials
My role on Best of BravoCon came about as a direct result of my work on a pair of specials released during the twelve months prior: Halloween in Hollywood and Salute to Summer.
The former was a cross-company effort to promote Halloween Ends and amplify NBCU’s connection to the Halloween season. I helped develop the special, scripted our host’s remarks, and had to Wikipedia the plot of each Halloween film multiple times because I was too scared to actually watch. The hour-long special aired on NBC in primetime — with 1.4 million folks tuning in — then lived on Peacock, where it quickly entered the top 20% of content streamed on the platform.
Much like Best of BravoCon, Salute to Summer was part of a much larger partnership — this one with the US Army. Along with a co-writer from my team, I was brought in to write a conversational, not-overly-branded script for our host talent, Erin Lim. The made-for-TV concert, headlined by Nick Jonas, helped create conversation, with a 132% increase in YouTube engagement, a 52% increase in Twitter conversation volume, and a 35% increase in Instagram engagement.
